8th Round of GCLS: Building support networks: empowering families for post-caregiver life (Italy)

The project “Building support networks: empowering families for post-caregiver life” is implemented by Vicenza Community Foundation as part of the 8th round of GCLS. It aims to raise awareness among families and the local community about the rights and opportunities available for individuals with disabilities, ensuring sustainable care solutions after the passing of caregivers. This need was identified through consultations with families of individuals with disabilities.

To achieve its objectives, the project will implement several key activities:

  • Development of informational materials such as brochures, guides, and online resources explaining legal rights and support options.
  • Organization of a seminar bringing together families and experts to discuss post-caregiver solutions.
  • A digital campaign utilizing social media and newsletters to raise awareness.
  • Collaboration with local media to publish articles and interviews with experts.
  • Establishing partnerships with institutions, disability associations, and public entities to build a sustainable support network.

The project involves the local community by directly engaging families in seminars, forming support groups, partnering with local entities for outreach, and encouraging volunteer participation. Key partners include local disability associations (e.g., ANFFAS, AISM, UILDM), public institutions, private companies, and media outlets.

The project aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being): Promotes well-being for people with disabilities by ensuring access to necessary information and resources.
  • SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities): Guarantees that all families, regardless of socio-economic background, receive equal access to support.
  • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals): Encourages collaboration among public, private, and civil society actors to create long-term care solutions.

Through its comprehensive approach of raising awareness, providing resources, and fostering community collaboration, the project “Building Support Networks: Empowering Families for Post-Caregiver Life” strives to ensure that individuals with disabilities and their families receive the support they need for a sustainable, dignified future after the loss of their primary caregiver
