Community Foundations – THANK YOU!
It seemed improbable, but today marks one year since Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. It was Community Foundations in countries neighboring Ukraine, but not only Ukraine, that were often the organizations that immediately responded by bringing aid to refugees from Ukraine and for the past 12 months have been caring for them and helping them organize their lives in exile.
Thanks to additional funds received from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, a co-founder of the Global Challenges Local Solutions program, in the special 1st edition of “GCLS for Ukrainian Refugees” we supported with grants the projects of 15 Community Foundations from countries such as Poland. Slovakia, Bulgaria, Latvia, UK, Italy, Germany, Romania
Dear GCLS grantees!
We thank you for the great, valuable – or shall we say priceless indeed – work you have done to support refugees from Ukraine.
You have helped more than 5,000 refugees by organizing, among other things, psychological assistance, professional counselling, childcare in kindergartner points and holidays for children, Polish lessons, assistance in finding a job, space to integrate into the local community in which they have been living for past months. Obviously, next to basic help such as support with finding accommodation, providing meals and medicines.
The 2nd edition of “GCLS for Ukrainian Refugees” grants started on February 1st and is currently underway, with 11 Community Foundations across Europe supporting Ukrainian refugees.
