In five schools in central Croatia, more than 300 primary school children will explore how food, green spaces and climate action are connected to everyday life. Instead of learning about sustainability only from textbooks, they will investigate local food systems, food waste, biodiversity and their neighbourhoods through workshops, field activities and small community actions.

The six-month campaign will follow children as they learn, ask questions, take action and make short videos about what they discover. They will help develop scripts, film activities and present practical ideas in 10–15 short videos for social media, alongside three interviews with experts. Teachers, volunteers, parents, community members and local organisations will also take part. One visible activity will bring children and volunteers together to plant at least 50 linden trees and other greenery in selected local areas.

The project responds to a local challenge: sustainability is increasingly taught in Croatian schools, but children often have few opportunities to connect it with practical action. This is especially relevant in rural communities and in Zagreb, where young people can have limited opportunities to participate in community initiatives.

Viewers will see how reducing food waste, choosing sustainable food, improving public spaces and changing everyday habits can connect to global goals—and how children can become active participants in their communities.

The project addresses SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
