In Stara Zagora, the transition away from coal is changing the region’s energy future, while water systems and wildlife protection remain important parts of everyday life but are often less visible to the public. This video campaign will bring these local realities closer to residents through 4–5 short mini-documentaries.

Each 2–5 minute video will tell a specific local story connected to one of three Sustainable Development Goals: clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, and life on land. The stories may explore wastewater treatment and environmental protection, new energy solutions emerging as coal mines close, and local efforts to protect biodiversity. Interviews with experts, practitioners and people involved in these activities will be combined with on-site footage and simple explanations.

The campaign responds to a local challenge: for many people, the SDGs can seem abstract and difficult to connect with their own surroundings. Stara Zagora also has examples that deserve wider attention, including the only Wildlife Rescue Centre in Bulgaria, as well as local responses to the region’s energy transition. The videos will show what these issues look like in practice and how different people and organisations are involved.

Viewers will gain a clearer understanding of how global goals connect to local challenges, services and initiatives. Videos will be shared online and presented at a public discussion, with English subtitles.

The project addresses SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
