Meet the GCLS Round 9 Grantees-Sibiu Community Foundation
In Sibiu County, Romania, residents are often overwhelmed by fragmented and contradictory information. Yet, they consistently respond with attention and financial support to local stories they recognize. While the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can feel abstract, the Sibiu Community Foundation is using the region’s largest community-funding event, the Sibiu International Marathon, to ground these global concepts in local reality.
Between June and November 2026, the foundation is launching a video-based campaign featuring six mini-documentaries. Instead of filming abstract concepts, a local production studio will follow real people, including neighborhood activists, runners, and local charity organizers.
Viewers will see firsthand how everyday efforts in Sibiu address real challenges. The short, English-subtitled films will feature stories like a runner training for a chronic-illness charity or a neighborhood group reclaiming an urban green space. By watching these real-life examples, the audience will learn how grassroots collaboration can translate global targets into practical, community-led solutions.
This project directly addresses SDG 3 (Health and Well-being), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
